This year has been a disaster in doing this. I am struggling along at a 33% Winning Percentage. The problem is that most people have no idea which team will show up on a Saturday. Either the world beaters, or the one that just does enough to get by. Alabama scoring 59 points? OK, but Texas A&M scoring 0? You think that cannot happen.
And I am going to argue that the SEC gets a pro-bias from the media and coaches. And I am not going to argue it by looking at the top teams in the conference this year, but at the last SEC ranked in both polls, the LSU Tigers. You are telling me that the LSU Tigers are near the 20th best team in the nation? Have you watched them? They haven't impressed anybody, but yet they are put into the Top 25. Ugh. I hope that the selection committee quashes this nonsense.
Onto the playoff race. Here is my top 10 in order this week:
1. Mississippi 2. Mississippi State 3. Florida State 4. Oregon 5. Michigan State 6. Alabama 7. Auburn 8.Georgia 9. Notre Dame 10. Ohio State
#4 Baylor at West Virginia (+8) - Baylor was the Big 12's argument for having their conference champion going to the playoffs. Well, that is gone. Now they are lumped in with TCU and Kansas State. Not a stout group to argue that one of them should get into the national playoff scene.
Baylor 27, West Virginia 41
#21 Texas A&M (+13.5) at #7 Alabama - What the heck happened here? The team that is known for their big plays had none. While the team that is known for conservative play scored 59 points. The perfect argument about not knowing what team for each school comes to play every week. Bama looked like they woke up finally this season.
Texas A&M 0, Alabama 59
#8 Michigan State (-17) at Indiana - If Michigan State wins the rest of their games, it will be difficult to keep them out of the Final Four. And it looks like they figured out how to play four quarters last week.
Michigan State 56, Indiana 17
#10 Georgia at Arkansas (+3.5) - Remember that I said that I believe in Bret Bielema? That was a mistake. He still hasn't won an SEC game. The Razorbacks might be better to make another change. As for the Bulldogs, they have the East in the stranglehold right now. They could play the spoiler in the SEC Championship game.
Georgia 45, Arkansas 32
Tennessee (+16.5) at #3 Mississippi - Tennessee is one of the sisters of the poor in the SEC. You think that the Volunteer faithful would like to have Phillip Fulmer and the records that he had to come back? I do. As for Mississippi, they are that team that everybody overlooked at the beginning of the season. They could be special, but they could still falter.
Tennessee 3, Mississippi 34
#5 Notre Dame at #2 Florida State (-10) - Florida State won this game. How they did it wasn't pretty. I expected the Seminoles to roll and maybe I have overrated them. You have to give props to Notre Dame. They went into Tallahassee and almost came out with a win. And if things roll right the loss didn't eliminate them from the playoff picture.
Notre Dame 27, Florida State 31
Washington (+21) at #9 Oregon - The vaunted defensive line for the Huskies were handled by the Ducks. If the Ducks continue to play like this, they are a tough team to play for anybody out there. But that is the problem, they don't play like this every week.
Washington 20, Oregon 45
